Carlos Saura García

Postdoctoral researcher in the research staff training program at Universidad Jaume I of Castellón (Spain). Graduated in Economics in 2019 from Universidad Jaume I (Academic Excellence Award GV). In 2020, he completed the Interuniversity Master’s Degree in Ethics and Democracy at Universidad Jaume I and Universidad de Valencia with the Master’s Thesis “La vigilancia en la democracia monitorizada. La irrupción del big data” (Extraordinary Master’s Degree Award). In December 2025, he completed his PhD in Ethics and Democracy with a thesis entitled “Datafeudalism and Democracy: The Domination of Big Tech Corporations in the Age of Generative AI,” supervised by Professor Patrici Calvo.

His research focuses on the study of the effects of big data technologies on society, particularly delving into three areas: ethical challenges of hyperconnectivity, datafication and algorithmization, implications of the GAMAM (Google, Amazon, Meta, Apple, and Microsoft) in the treatment and use of massive data, and ethical implications of using massive data in democratic contests and democratic systems (mass democracy).
He has undertaken research stays at the Alma Mater Reserach Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence at the Università di Bologna (Italy, 2022-2023), the Florence School of Transnational Governance at the European University Institute (Italy, 2024), and the Data Justice Lab at Cardiff University (Wales, 2026).
